Anne Elder Award

The prestigious Anne Elder Award offers important recognition for Australian poets at key stage of their writing lives. It was set up to commemorate the poet Anne Elder (1918-76) whose own first book, For the Record (Hawthorn Press, 1972) gave a critical boost to her confidence and was influential in establishing her reputation among poets of her generation.

This national award, which has been running since 1977, is given annually for a sole-authored first book of poetry of 20-minimum pages in length, published in Australia. Many of its former winners have flourished both locally and internationally.

Australian Poetry is thrilled to announce the winning and commended books in the 2018 Anne Elder Award.
